The emulsified asphalt consistency meter is an instrument used to measure the consistency of emulsified asphalt slurry seal mixture. The following is a detailed introduction:

Purpose

It is used to test the paving and workability of emulsified asphalt slurry seal mixture and determine the appropriate amount of water in the mix design of emulsified asphalt slurry seal mixture.

Working principle

The emulsified asphalt slurry seal mixture is contained in a cone of a specific shape, and the degree of natural collapse of the mixture after the cone is turned over and lifted is used to reflect its consistency. The more the mixture collapses, the smaller the consistency and the greater the fluidity; conversely, the less collapse, the greater the consistency and the lower the fluidity.

Structural composition

Metal truncated cone: upper diameter 38mm, lower diameter 89mm, height 76mm, usually made of aluminum alloy.
Metal base plate: 4mm thick, with concentric circle scale lines, 0.5cm spacing, generally made of stainless steel, easy to observe and read the collapse size of the mixture.
Pad: Generally a U-shaped pad, which plays the role of auxiliary support and convenient operation of the cone.

Usage

1. Preparation: Prepare coarse and fine aggregates and fillers according to the required grading, and weigh 500g of the total mixture after drying, accurate to 1g.
2. Mixing of mixture: Put 500g of mineral material and filler in the mixing pot and mix them evenly, add the predetermined amount of water to mix them evenly, and then add a certain amount of emulsified asphalt. The mixing time is not less than 1min and not more than 3min until it is mixed well.
3. Sample loading operation: Pour the mixed slurry mixture quickly into the pre-wetted round cone test mold, with the small end of the round cone test mold at the bottom, and use a 55mm×55mm×3mm metal plate to pad it underneath and scrape the surface flat. Cover the large end of the test mold with a scale plate, align the inner circle on the plate with the mold, and then quickly turn the test mold over.
4. Observation reading: Lift the round cone test mold quickly, steadily, and vertically to observe the slurry collapse. The consistency value of the slurry is expressed by the degree of its outward collapse. Observe the circle on the metal plate, select 4 points (two perpendicular diameters), and read the consistency value of the slurry in cm
