The main machinery and equipment were imported, and the design and manufacture of machinery products were mostly controlled by foreigners. Deng Yuemo started his exploration and struggle in the field of mechanical engineering under such historical conditions.
In 1930, Deng Yuemo was hired as a professor at Peiyang University. The Ministry of Education of the National Government of Nanjing stipulated that all engineering colleges must establish laboratories. But at that time, almost all teaching and experiment equipment was imported and expensive. For example, a 50,000-pound material testing machine cost more than 15,000 US dollars, and the government's funding for schools was extremely limited. In order to overcome this difficulty, Deng Yuemo determined to design and manufacture by himself. From 1932 to 1933, Deng Yuemo relied on the Mechanical Research Institute and after a series of arduous experiments, he successfully designed and manufactured a series of instruments and equipment for the material laboratory and hydraulic laboratory, such as hydraulic testing machines, impact testing machines, and cement Rally machines, flow meters, mixed flow pumps, two-stage water pumps, hydraulic turbines, etc., in addition to equipping the materials laboratory and hydraulic laboratory of Beiyang University, they are also supplied to Shandong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Henan University, Chongqing University, Jiaozuo Institute of Technology, Henan Water Conservancy Used by related laboratories in vocational schools and many other universities across the country.
