Usually based on the ring and ball method principle, that is, the asphalt sample is injected into a sample ring of specified size, placed in a beaker filled with liquid medium (such as distilled water or glycerin), and heated at a specified heating rate to gradually soften the asphalt. When the asphalt softens to a certain extent, under the action of a steel ball of specified mass, the asphalt sample falls from the sample ring. When it falls to a specified distance, the temperature at this time is the softening point of the asphalt. The instrument controls the temperature rise through computer intelligent control, and uses electronic photoelectric detection or laser detection and other technologies to automatically detect the moment when the steel ball falls to the specified position, and record the temperature at this time, so as to obtain the softening point of the asphalt.
