Generally, the vacuum method principle is adopted. The asphalt mixture sample is placed in a negative pressure container with a sealed cover, and the container is evacuated by a vacuum pump to form a negative pressure environment in the container, thereby removing the air in the mixture. At the same time, the negative pressure container is vibrated by a vibration device to accelerate the exhaust of air and ensure thorough exhaust. When the air in the container is fully exhausted, according to the Archimedes principle, the theoretical maximum relative density of the asphalt mixture is calculated by measuring the volume change of water in a container of known volume.
