SYD-3536 Cleveland flash point instrument is an instrument used to determine the flash point and fire point of petroleum products, etc. The following is a detailed introduction:

Purpose and scope of application

Applicable to the Cleveland open cup method to determine the flash point and fire point of viscous petroleum asphalt, coal tar and liquid petroleum asphalt materials with a flash point above 79°C, in order to assess construction safety.

Working principle

Place the sample in a container of specified shape and size for heating. The gas evaporated by the sample after heating forms a mixture with the surrounding air. The temperature at which the sample starts to flash when it contacts the flame is the flash point of the sample; if the heating continues, the temperature at which the mixed gas can continue to burn for at least 5s after contacting the fire is the fire point of the sample.

Main structure

Cleveland open cup: made of brass or copper alloy, inner diameter φ63.5mm±0.5mm, depth 33.6mm±0.5mm, a circular marking line engraved at the distance of 9.4mm±0.4mm between the inner wall and the upper mouth of the cup, with a bent handle.

Heating plate: made of brass or cast iron, 145mm-160mm in diameter, about 6.5mm thick metal plate, with asbestos pad on top, and a round hole in the center to support the metal sample cup. There is a φ4.0mm±0.2mm electroplated metal ball of the same size as the standard test flame at 58mm from the center for flame adjustment reference.

Thermometer: generally -6℃-400℃, graduation 2℃, technical conditions meet the requirements of GB/T514 Technical Conditions for Liquid Thermometers for Petroleum Product Testing.

Ignitor: Metal tube, with a pointed tip for producing flames at the end, the outer diameter of the end is about 1.6mm, the inner diameter is 0.7mm-0.8mm, connected to the combustible gas pressure vessel, the flame size can be adjusted, and it can rotate horizontally with a radius of 150mm.

Iron bracket: about 500mm high, with a thermometer clamp and a sample cup bracket, and the support foot is a height adjuster to keep the heating top horizontal.

Windscreen: Made of metal sheet, it surrounds the instrument on three sides to block the wind, the inner wall is painted black, and it is about 600mm high.

Heating source: an electric furnace or gas furnace with a regulator to control the heating speed of the heated sample.

Technical parameters

Working power supply: AC 220V±10%, 50Hz.
Heating device: Quartz tube electric furnace heating, no open flame, explosion-proof, power 0-600W continuously adjustable.
Sweeping device: automatic sweeping.
Ignition source: coal gas or other civilian combustible gas.
Nozzle aperture: 0.6-0.8 mm.
Ambient temperature: -10℃-50℃.
Relative humidity: ≤85%.
Power consumption of the whole machine: not more than 650W.

Instructions for use

Preparation: Open the box, check the instrument and accessories, and install them after confirming that there is no damage or missing. Check whether the power grounding is good. Wash and dry the sample cup with solvent, and install it on the bracket. Install the thermometer, insert the thermometer vertically into the sample cup, and the mercury ball of the thermometer is about 6.5mm from the bottom of the cup, and the position is 16mm from the edge of the cup on the side opposite to the igniter. Inject the sample into the sample cup to the mark, ensure that the other parts of the sample cup are not stained with asphalt, and the heating temperature of the sample cannot exceed 55℃ below the flash point. Place the instrument in a dark place indoors with no significant air circulation, and surround it with a windproof screen on three sides. Connect the igniter to the combustible gas pressure vessel with a hose, test ignition, and adjust the flame to the shape of a standard ball or a small spherical test flame with a diameter of 4mm±0.8mm.

Test operation: Start heating the sample and quickly increase the heating rate to 14℃/min-17℃/min. When the temperature reaches 56℃ before the expected flash point, reduce the heating rate and control the rate at 5.5℃/min±0.5℃/min at 28℃ before the flash point. Starting when the temperature reaches 28℃ before the expected flash point, sweep the test flame of the igniter horizontally along the center of the test cup mouth with a radius of 150mm every 2℃, and the time elapsed is about 1s. When a blue flame that extinguishes in an instant first appears on the surface of the sample liquid, record the temperature as the flash point of the sample. Continue heating at a temperature rate of 5.5℃/min±0.5℃/min. When the sample immediately catches fire when it contacts the flame and can continue to burn for at least 5s, stop heating and record the temperature as the ignition point of the sample.
